If you follow the National Trust for Historic Preservation on Twitter, are a fan on Facebook, receive our emails, or spend any time hanging out on our website, chances are good that you’ve heard we’re part of an online voting competition called TakePart from American Express. We haven’t really mentioned it here on the PreservationNation blog all that much – unless you count that giant button over in the sidebar. Now, however, it’s coming down to the wire, and we’re in a close race with our nearest competitor. Voting ends on May 23 so we’re pulling out all the stops and flat-out asking everyone who interacts with us to please cast a vote for us before Sunday – and for you to ask five of your friends to do the same.
Why should you vote? Because the winning organization will receive a grant for $200,000 from American Express. Here at the National Trust, that money will go a long way in helping us save places that matter – the kinds of places we write about on this blog every day. The most recent example? The ones we shared yesterday, on our annual list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.
Voting is pretty easy – you can use either Facebook Connect or register for an account on the TakePart site. There’s no requirement to be an AmEx cardholder (I’m not) and, so long as you uncheck the boxes about getting additional email, they won’t spam you to death (I’ve gotten nothing other than vote confirmations – I swear). More details on how to vote can be found here.
Thanks for taking a moment to read this voting plea. We’ll be returning to our regularly-scheduled programming shortly… that is, posts that are actually about preservation.
